Demystifying Minecraft Server IPs: What They Are and How to Find Yours

3rd Mar 2022

Minecraft Server

Minecraft, the beloved sandbox game, offers players the opportunity to build, explore, and connect with others in vast virtual worlds. One of the key features that makes Minecraft so captivating is the ability to join multiplayer servers, where players can interact and collaborate on various projects and adventures. However, to access these servers, you need to know their unique identifier: the Minecraft Server IP. In this article, we will demystify Minecraft Server IPs, explaining what they are and how to find yours.

In simple terms, a Minecraft Server IP is a series of numbers and/or letters that serves as the address for a Minecraft server. It allows your Minecraft client to connect to a specific server, granting you access to its gameplay, community, and unique features. Just like a street address helps you find a specific location, a Minecraft Server IP directs your client to the right server in the vast Minecraft multiplayer landscape.

To find your Minecraft Server IP, follow these steps:

  1. Determine if you're hosting the server: If you're playing on a server that you or a friend created, it's likely that you're hosting it. In this case, finding the IP is relatively straightforward. If you're joining an existing server that is publicly available, you'll need to obtain the IP from the server owner or website.

  2. Locate the server.properties file: If you're hosting the server, you'll need to locate the server.properties file in your Minecraft server's directory. This file contains various server settings, including the server IP. If you're unsure where to find it, check the documentation or support resources provided by the Minecraft server software you're using.

  3. Open the server.properties file: Use a text editor to open the server.properties file. It's typically a plain text file that can be opened with applications like Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac). Within the file, you should find a line that says "server-ip=" followed by an IP address or domain name.

  4. Note down the IP address or domain name: Copy the IP address or domain name listed after "server-ip=" and make a note of it. This is the Minecraft Server IP that you'll use to connect to your server.

Once you have the Minecraft Server IP, you can use it to connect to the server in the Minecraft client:

  1. Launch Minecraft: Open the Minecraft game on your computer and log in to your Minecraft account.

  2. Select "Multiplayer": In the main menu, click on "Multiplayer" to access the multiplayer server browser.

  3. Add the server: Click on "Add Server" or "Direct Connect" (depending on your Minecraft version) and enter the Server IP in the appropriate field. Give the server a name to help you identify it later.

  4. Join the server: Once you've added the server with its IP, select it from the server list and click "Join Server" to connect. If the server is online and accessible, you should be able to enter its virtual world and begin your multiplayer adventure.

It's important to note that Minecraft Server IPs can come in different forms. They can be numerical IP addresses (e.g., "192.168.1.1") or domain names (e.g., "play.exampleserver.com"). Some servers may also specify a specific port number after the IP (e.g., "play.exampleserver.com:25565"). Pay attention to the format specified by the server owner or in the server documentation to ensure you enter the IP correctly.

Minecraft Server IPs are essential for connecting to multiplayer servers and engaging in collaborative gameplay with others. By understanding what Minecraft Server IPs are and how to find yours, you can easily join servers and explore the vast Minecraft multiplayer community. Whether you're hosting your own server or joining an existing one, the Server IP serves as your digital address, guiding you to exciting adventures and experiences within the Minecraft universe.
